Yearbook design OBS Tuindorp

For this project, I designed a yearbook for the sixth grade of the elementary school 'OBS Tuindorp'. I teamed up with two class mothers in charge of compiling the book. They provided me with pictures, text and feedback.
For privacy's sake, I changed most of the text on this page to 'Lorem Ipsum' and blurred the pictures of the children and teachers.

The yearbook consists of text and pictures of children, text and portraits of teachers, some photo spreads of what happened in class during their time at OBS Tuindorp and an Enquete.

First, I started with the pages that would feature the children. These pages would be a substantial part of the yearbook.
I looked up some references and inspiration online and made some concepts.

fter it felt like I had enough options, I showed it to my client for feedback. After some debate, we chose the paint splatter background because it wasn't too busy but still playful.

To decide on the colour of the paint splatter, I colour-picked from the clothes the child was wearing in their big photo.

I went through mostly the same steps to get to the design of the pages with teachers.
(I left the original text here. It's a cute text, so if you're Dutch, you can read it.)

For the theme spreads, I created a few different kinds of splattered backgrounds. After that, I played around with the composition of pictures. The goal was to make most of them fit.

The Enquete was fun to design because I had to create an easy-to-read visual page based on only dense texts. I played around and drew whatever came to mind when reading the Enquete questions.

After that, I tried to find the best composition on the page and ensured all the text would fit. Lastly, I added colour.

On the front, there were two photos made as an option. I created a concept for both. We chose the third concept because the background was calmer. It also had the school logo.

Eventually, I had to shrink the picture in the context of the 3mm bleed for printing.
